Solo kayak around Australia

You couldn’t talk about this paddle without first mentioning the first and the only person to have completed this, Paul Caffyn, a name synonymous with sea kayaking. Paul was the first person to paddle around Australia, a paddle which is regarded as one of the most incredible journeys ever done in a kayak. The trip was started in December 1981 and completed 360 days later back at Queenscliff beach in Victoria.

Having already eclipsed the time set by Paul for a circumnavigation of the South Island of NZ, covering the 1,700 miles in \"just\" 70 days, Freya Hoffmeister was not only just the third person to do the trip alone, she did it faster than the men who proceeded her. The former gymnast turned body builder turned sky diver turned hard-core expedition kayaker already has several record-setting trips on her resumé and she\'s just getting started.

And that’s where we take up the story, Freya Hoffmeister is now on her way to eclipsing that time set by Paul Caffyn, Paul Caffyn himself described the trip ahead as “The most significant solo kayak trip undertaken by a woman in the southern hemisphere”.
