Dawn of a New Era in Ontario Adventure Racing
News Release / 11.04.2009

At the end of the season, the winners in each category will be proclaimed the Ontario AR Champions. Over $4000 in prizing will be distributed among the top teams, including free entries into the 2010 editions of participating race events.
Teams accumulate points mostly for participation, as well as their rankings, and additional factors like race length and quantity of participants. Each team’s best three results will be used to assess the final season rankings.
Bob Miller, the creator of the series, and one of Canada’s best adventure racers, says the series is intended to build more community for the sport. “This gives teams something to strive for, an organized series of events that reward both participation and performance,†Miller said. “It gives the sport more credibility.â€
OARPS encompasses every adventure race happening in Ontario in 2009, and participation is automatic. Race directors are working together to maintain the standings for everyone who races in any participating event. The more you race, the better your standings!
The series consists of team adventure races that are multi-sport, adventure runs and some multi-sport non-navigation races.
OARPS launches this Easter weekend with the first event of the new series, the Salomon DontGetLost.ca Giant's Rib Raid in Milton.
"The series has it all," says Mike Waddington, co-race director for the Rib Raid. "There are well established sprint adventure races, some races that don't involve any navigation, 24 and 36-hour races, and then of course our adventure runs" he adds.
Full series rules, details and results are available at www.oarps.ca.
