STAMFORD, CT (May 27, 2004) - The BALANCE BAR® Adventure Sprint will host nearly 1,000 adventure racers on August 14-15 at Folsom Lake, just outside Sacramento, CA. Located at the base of the Sierra foothills, the 18,000-acre lake and recreation area offers a 32-mile long bicycle path and other opportunities for hiking, biking, camping, kayaking and other aquatic sports.

In the BALANCE BAR® Adventure Sprints, competitors are challenged to a true adventure racing experience. Teams of three complete 5-8 miles of trail running, 10-15 miles of mountain biking, 1-3 miles of kayaking and 6-8 special tests. Divisions include: Coed Elite, Coed, Female, Male, College, Corporate and a Masters division (combined ages of 120+). Entry fee for each BALANCE BAR® Adventure Sprint is $270 per team. For those new to adventure racing, the BALANCE BAR® Adventure Race Series also offers two types of educational clinics. First, free adventure clinics are held approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the Adventure Sprint events, with basic instruction on adventure racing and different disciplines. The Sacramento Adventure Clinic will be taught by world-class elite racer Ian Adamson of Team Nike ACG/BALANCE BAR and takes place on July 21, from 7:00-8:30 pm at the REI at 1790 Expo Parkway in Sacramento. Additionally, free adventure clinics are taught at the race site prior to the event. All on-site clinics are taught by elite adventure racing teams.

The BALANCE BAR® Adventure Sprints began the year in Austin, TX on May 8-9 and travelled to New York, NY, on May 22-23. The series will continue with stops in Atlanta, GA, on June 19-20, Sacramento, CA on August 14-15, Hartford, CT on September 18-19 and Richmond, VA on October 2-3 with the Series final in Los Angeles, CA on October 16th. At each event, the BALANCE BAR® Adventure Sprint offers a spectator festival, give-aways and the BALANCE BAR® Kids Adventure, a race for children between the ages of 4-12 years.

The 2004 BALANCE BAR® Adventure Race Series awards a grand total of $170,000 in prize money. Of this total amount, the BALANCE BAR® Adventure Sprints has a total prize purse of $60,000 and the BALANCE BAR® 24-Hour Adventure Series carries an overall prize purse of $110,000. Prize money is awarded in the Coed division only. Teams competing for the BALANCE BAR® Adventure Sprints Series championship must compete in four of the eight events, including the Series final in Los Angeles, Oct. 16th.
