Calling all triathletes and adventure racers wanting to improve their swimming
Jacqueline Windh / 07.10.2009

The one-week camp is based on Margarita Island (belongs to Venezuela), in the southernmost part of the Caribbean, just off the South American mainland. Training consisted of two two-hour pool sessions per day, in a lovely outdoor 50 m pool a stone's throw from the beach. Swimmers are housed at the all-inclusive Laguna Mar Resort - and the resort scene there would be pretty weird for most adventurous travellers if the swimming schedule wasn't so heavy. But by the time you eat "first breakfast", do your morning pool session, have "second breakfast" then a bit of beachtime then lunch and the afternoon pool session, all that's left in your day is time to have join the group for a couple of margaritas and dinner, and then bed. So, in this case, the all-inclusive meals and drinks at the resort are actually great - you can just focus on the swim sessions, and the recovery in between (beachside, of course).
This is not a course for people to learn to swim - it is for swimmers looking to improve their stroke. Toronto-based swim coaches Doug Vanderby and Kelvin Landolt are excellent - the group will be divided into lanes according to speed and ability, and each lane is set with exercises, drills, and lap times according to their particular level. There will be two different focus groups to choose from:
1. Endurance through Interval training, speed work and continuous distance swimming - for all levels and in all 4 strokes - 12 Workouts.
2. Stroke Improvement through drills, some interval training & speed work - in all 4 strokes during the first group and only freestyle in the second group - 12 Workouts.
