7 Cerros Medellin Urban Adventure Race
Jacqueline Windh / 29.11.2009

The three-day staged adventure race, with a route that moves throughout the day between the urban centre of this historic city to the wild slopes of the seven hills surrounding Medellin, coincides with a weekend of racing for Colombians in individual AR disciplines such as trail running, mountain biking, orienteering and roller blading. This is part of what makes this event so powerful, as international elite athletes mingle with thousands of local athletes. The level of athleticism, as well as enthusiasm for sports, in Colombia is quite impressive! Already, more than 2000 entrants have signed up, and organizers expect to achieve a total of 5000! You've just got to be there to appreciate the power of this.
The decision to postpone is mainly because Medellin is also hosting the South American games this year (in March), and organizers would like to run these two big sporting events closer together, so that 7 Cerros serves as a sort of preamble to the games.
The AR part of the event is a fast-paced 3-day staged race that attracts some of the world's top teams. Already, 19 teams have registered for it, including international teams from Finland, Spain, Uruguay and Argentina. There is a possibility of international teams receiving some travel support from organizers; if this interests you then contact them right away through the "Contact" page on their website: www.7cerrosmedellin.com
