Shop Early for Races in 2010
Rob Howard / 21.12.2009

One of the perennial problems adventure race organisers have is a surge in late entries making it hard to plan for their events, and one of the ways around it to offer ‘early bird’ discounts, many of which expire at New Year. So, if you can get an entry in this month it can save you a fair amount.
Here’s the SleepMonsters guide to some of the offers available;
‘Rat Race Rewards’
This is new discount scheme covering all events ‘Powered by Rat Race’ so it includes all categories in the 3 Rat Races in 2010 and The Mighty Deerstalker and Horseplay runs. (Other Rat Race events are not yet announced for 2010.)
The scheme offers everyone who enters a Rat Race event a unique reward code to be used for the discounts and these vary depending on the race and how early you enter. For example if you enter The Mighty Deerstalker 10k run before the end of the year there is a £10 store reward, which added to the 25% off another entry makes the £29 entry fee look even better value!

Questars Series Discount
All of the Questars races in 2009 sold out and if you are planning to enter all the one day races in the series it makes sense to enter them as early as possible. The financial incentive is a 15% discount on the series entry, but it’s only valid until the end of the year. Questars are also running a 2 day race this year, and there is £10 off the entry price if you enter that by Jan. 31st.

adidas Terrex AR
With the launch of the adidas Terrex race next August Bank Holiday the UK once again has a non-stop expedition length race! If you are not quite ready for that commitment yet you can still be part of the big race atmosphere by joining in the event prologue, which is open to all and FREE. That’s a discount that is hard to beat.
AR World Championships
If you’ve set your ambitions at the highest level and plan to take part at the 2010 World Championship in Spain then the entry price is staged and once again it’s cheapest to get an entry before the end of the year (provided you’ve met the qualifying criteria). Before Dec. 31st the entry fee is 2340 Euros, after which it rises to 2500 until March 16th and 2990 thereafter (if there are any places available).

If you know of any more early bird offers we’ve not mentioned please post them on the forum and take care that races you plan to compete in don’t fill up before you have a place. Also, if are planning to go along without having pre-entered remember that some events no longer offer entry on the day and those that do usually charge a higher fee.
