ARWC 2010 to Offset CO2
News Release / 20.01.2010

A recent statement from the race organisation stated;
At the recent summit meeting in Copenhagen on climate change and CO2 emissions the world’s leaders have not been capable of coming to any effective agreement and the competitors and organizers of adventure racing are concerned with this very real problem.
For this reason we want to announce that the ARWChampionship2010 will be one of the
first world sports events that will compensate it’s the CO2 emissions.
Though in our sport itself these emissions are not significant, we must think that an organization moving more than 300 people during the week of competition requires substantial support. This includes a number vehicles, a helicopter for filming or rescue, inflatable motor craft for safety on the water and the consumption of electricity in hotels and at the centre of operations, etc.
As a first measure we are considering using vehicles with little environmental impact and the most ecological performance for the assistance and transport of material during the race.
This smaller consumption will be compensated using the compensation tables issued by specialized organizations and the costs will be designated to support some environmental projects or in the rural areas of Castilla y León, including the replacement of traditional energy by renewable ones as such solar panels, photovoltaic plates or small windmills.
