Sprayway Trailplus series at Sandhurst
Rob / 13.03.2002

After some chopping and changing with dates and venues the details for the Trailplus one-day races have finally been announced.
This year Sprayway are the main sponsors of the 3 race series, which will all take place at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst in Berkshire. The dates are 4th May, 20th July and 14th September and are described as good for beginners or intermediates with only basic navigation required. They are promising some sort of special event in October too.
The promotional blurb asked: “Are you up for a filthy threesome? Fancy up to six hours of breathless, unbridled passion? Want to experience the ultimate fulfilment high?†It went to describe the series as “the UK\'s biggest, most accessible and most fun one day Adventure Race Series since the Hi-Tec.†They’ve been reading old X-adventure and Hi-Tec ads. to come up with advertising copy!
QuestARS might claim to be the biggest too, and with their 8 race series targeted firmly in the South of England, and ACE Races launching the Ford Adventure Series, all within 2 hours of London, there is a lot of competition for one-day racers hailing from London and the commuter belt. Too much maybe. There are the Salomon X-adventure one-day races too, the first of which is on the Isle of Wight in late April.
It looks like the Sprayway/Trailplus events are a bit shorter than the rest (3-6 hours), will include ‘secret challenges’ as they have in the past, and will be bigger races. They have 150 to 200 places for teams of 3 on plan on having mass starts, which are always good for the TV cameras. Otherwise they are similar to the others, with trail running and biking and using inflatable canoes.
