18-Hour Adventure Race - May 21 & 22, 2010
The course design is just about complete and we have another great event in store for everyone. The course will be friendly to both novice racers (and allow them to experience all of the highlights) as well as challenging for the more experienced teams.
Following is some important information that will help you to plan for this year's event.
You will need to make a bike drop before you arrive at the parking and registration location. You should plan about an extra hour for this. The exact location of the bike drop and parking/registration area will be given out on Wednesday, May 19th. Again, if you are looking for a hotel room on Thursday or Saturday evening, we recommend something in the New Paltz, NY area. See the NYARA site for more details.
We are also excited that we will have a ropes element in this year's event. We will be making updates to the gear list shortly; however, we will also make arrangements with our climbing guide service to loan this equipment to those that do not own it. Please note: there will be no advantage to using the guide's equipment. Everyone will need to carry this gear the same distance on this specific section of the course ... so please bring your own if you have it.
You will be paddling canoes at this year's event. You will also be transporting your bikes in the canoes, so having a good method to secure them will be important.
Solos – 1 canoe
2 person team – 1 canoe
3 person team – 2 canoes
4 person team – 2 canoes

There will be two courses:
The Pro course will be rogaine style with a 6 hour cut off time and is designed for those who have raced before and have good navigation skills.
The Novice course will be a 3-4 hour marked course (with a 6-hour cut off) for those who either haven't done a race before or who may be a little rusty with the nav.
Divisions for both courses will include Co-Ed, All Female, All Male and Masters.

Fees: $160 for teams of 2 before April 10th, $185 after April 10th, 15% discount for NYARA members

And a big PS ...
Don't miss the super fun but crazy challenging Muddy Marathon on May 1st.
It is a loop course (6.55 miles, so just longer than a 10K) and you've got two hours to get as much mileage in as you can. You can do it once, twice, or four times.
The course is very difficult, muddy, hilly - not for beginners - and you finish in a baseball field with kegs of Cricket Hill Beer and BBQ. Sounds like my kind of race!
