adidas Terrex Race Nearly Full

News Release / 09.06.2010
Tempted by the Terrex – well don’t leave it too late!

The adidas TERREX Adventure race is nearly FULL.

Organisers of the race are delighted as with a month to go before entries close, they have reached the target number of teams. In total over 25 teams have signed up to what promises to be the biggest challenge for Adventure Racers in the UK during 2010. Don’t worry there is still space for a few more but you will have to be quick as entries close on August 1st.

The adidas TERREX Adventure race is 400km long and the route is unknown to racers until they arrive the day before the actual race starts. From that moment on they have to plan the best route by bike, foot and on water to cover the distance with fixed controls in between. At certain points along the way they will be faced with a few hidden surprises like ghyll scrambling, maybe an abseil or perhaps an open water swim – either way they will need to be prepared for the unexpected. It is sure to be a test of each athlete’s physical and mental stamina. The race has consumed the interest of lots of local teams.

Last year’s World Champions, Nicola MacLeod, Tom Gibbs, Nick Gracie and Warren Bates will be chasing first place but the competition will be fierce with a team from Haglöfs, Inov 8 and Planet Fear all jostling for the top position all with local racers in the teams. Paul Vousden from Haglöfs comments – “The adidas Terrex looks like it is going to be a fast and challenging race. The Lake District features such a variety of terrain in a small area that this can only lead to it being an eventful race with plenty to think about both before and during the epic race. Team Haglöfs are really excited that a race of such high calibre is coming to such a popular and beautiful location. It will be fun to see more spectators and supporters than usual, and to see the lakes in all their glory during the day, night, dawn and dusk. We can’t wait for the adventure to start.”

A Bite Size Adventure

If you and some friends want a piece of the action but 4 days of Adventure is too much of an undertaking, remember you can enter the prologue race for FREE. Teams of four are being encouraged to enter and get a taste of what the racers will experience over the long race.

Open Adventure will be testing your skills on this short course around Keswick and you can expect a few surprises en route. Be prepared to get wet, be tested on your navigation, and to have to leg it to the finish line. All you need to bring is your team, a compass and your running shoes. Nervous – well don’t be. The aim of the race is to give the town a taste of what the real adventure racers will incur- the emphasis is on fun. Click on www.adidas-ar.com and follow the link to the Prologue Entry Page to Enter. Entries close on August 1st.
