LAMM 2010 - Oysters, Beer and Mountains
Rob Howard / 17.06.2010

The courses were set by planner Andy Spencely on the Ardkinglas Estate making use of some iconic mountains (9 of them Munros) and broad glens, and using a higher, rougher and more remote mid-camp than of late.
Some 500 pairs made their way to Loch Fyne to take part including Stephen Pyke, who had only recently completed his epic run over all the Munros, and Brian Leyton who has raced all 16 previous LAMM’s. Elite racers Bjorn Rydvall and Mattias Nystrom had also travelled over from Sweden to take part.
This year the teams were given a map with all the controls plotted in unmarked circles and there were 4 different start locations, set a bus ride away from the event centre.
When the maps were studied there were three checkpoints on Munro summits on Saturday and the weather was fine and clear so teams could enjoy them as they made their way to the mid-camp. Here there was an orderly line of runners outside the only car on location with a radio, so they could listen to England’s first world cup match! Come Sunday the weather was not as good with low cloud on the hills, but the weather did come out for the prize giving back at Loch Fyne.
Event organiser Martin Stone announced that the competitors had drunk all the donated barrels of Fyne Beer and raised over £2000 towards a new Land Rover for the Arrochar Mountain Rescue Team. Finishers also got a bottle each to take home!
The Elite winners this year were Andy and Joe Symmonds, but the pair were not free to take up the prize of a trip to The BAMM in Sweden later in the year, and this went to second places pair Dan Gay and Alasdair Anthony.
