2011 TransRockies and TR3 Registration Opens Friday
News Release / 01.10.2010

Anniversaries are always special occasions and the entire TransRockies organization is looking forward to celebrating this milestone when hundreds of riders from around the World will arrive in Fernie to start another epic week in the Rocky Mountains.
As the first event of it’s kind on this continent, the TransRockies blazed the trail for organizers of multi-day epic races in North America, defining a new wilderness approach to this style of riding. The 10th Anniversary race will be a great opportunity to look back on the growth of the race and the sport.
In 2010, supported by Travel Alberta the TransRockies returned to its original routing with a new, more direct 400km course through the Rockies from Fernie to the finish line in spectacular Canmore, Alberta. The 10th Anniversary route is already well into development with the goal of moving Stages 4 and 5 higher into the Alberta Rockies and away from the pastures and lower trails of the ranchlands in the foothills, ensuring better riding and views. A late arriving Indian Summer has allowed route planners to get some great planning rides through Septmber and full details of the 2011 route will be released over the next months.
Over the last decade, thousands of racers have come to test themselves against the Rockies have and they have left with a lifetime of stories to tell. The theme of the 2011 TransRockies will be Reunion and special registration incentives are being offered to past participants to encourage them to come and join the telling or stories and the celebration as new ones are written. A loyalty discount of 10% off the base registration fee per past TransRockies participation, per person is being offered until November 30th.
For 2011, the pricing structure has also been changed to offer more flexibility to riders. The base team fee will be for the ride only and a wide range of a la carte add-ons will allow riders to pay for only the services they need. The $2900(CDN) base registration per team can be customized with a variety of single and double occupancy camping, vehicle and meal upgrades.
2011 will also see the end of any cancellation fees. Riders will be able to transfer their entry to another rider or to the next year at no charge should they run into obstacles in preparing for 2011.
The base fee in 2011 will include a brand new fee as part of a trail fundraising initiative. The TransRockies will donate $100 per participant ($50 per TR3 participant) to organizations that support development and advocacy for mountain bike trails, both in the areas where TransRockies operates and also internationally. The cost of this donation will be added to registration fees but riders who show that they give 8 hours to a local trail organization will be able to waive it. This initiative was begun in as part of ther GORE-TEX â„¢TransRockies Run and has raised over $35,000 for trails so far from that event.
In 2010, the TransRockies received UCI sanctioning for both the TR3 and TransRockies and after discussions with the UCI, international points and prize money will only be offered in the TR3 event for 2011. The total prize purse will be $11,400 for the solo 3-day event in the Open Men and Open Women categories. With the race all-important national and individual places at the 2012 London Olympic Games heating up, the TR3 is a great chance for Pros to grab UCI points and even more should be on the line in 2011. The team event will continue to offer a generous cash and product purse to top teams.
A maximum of 600 riders will be able to take part in this event in 2011. Interested mountain bikers should visit http://www.transrockies.com soon for full registration details.
