Columbia presents 'Wintervention'
Richard Brown / 22.11.2010

Anyway for those of us who enjoy a bit of off-piste action, watching Warren Miller's 'Wintervention' reminds us why we go every year (oh, and why we all wish we'd started when we were twenty years younger, and lived somewhere snowy, and were alot better at it than we actually are!). The film is a tour de force of skiing and snowboarding on almost every continent; heli-skiing, back-country, free-styling and tricks. You can see the preview on the next page.
As one of the title sponsors of the tour Columbia were using this opportunity to promote their range of products utilising their latest creation, sportswear with their omni-heat technology. With the highest heat retention per gram in the industry, a 20% increase in the thermal reflectiveness of the lining, Columbia are launching a range of jackets & mid-layers perfect for the British Winter to come as well as for those planning on venturing to more exotic snowey locations.
At a recent launch I had the opportunity of testing one of Columbia's new omni-heat ski jackets in a freeze! And wearing only a t-shirt and their jacket I spent a not uncomfortable if slightly surreal session shut in the walk-in freezer setup for that purpose. A more robust field test will follow ...
