Dynamic Adventure Racing – The Adventure is Over
News Release/Rob Howard / 03.12.2010

It is with great regret that we announce the suspension of trading by Dynamic Adventure Racing for the foreseeable future. At present there are no race dates planned for 2011. This decision was not taken lightly and is something that has been challenging us for a while. However, please be assured that if the situation changes in the future we will notify everyone immediately who has subscribed to our newsletter and via SleepMonsters.
Nicky and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the competitors that have supported Dynamic Adventure Racing since it was formed back in 2002. Many have become regular attendees at our races throughout the year and many we class as friends, who we will certainly miss. Without your valued support, the events would not have become so popular and well attended. We would also like to express our gratitude for the support shown by our sponsors over the years.
Nicky and Simon began organising races with Jonathan Mayne some 8 years ago after winning their own racing spurs at the early ACE Races events and some international competitions. (Jonathan is just about to set off for Abu Dhabi with Team Tri-adventure, taking the name from the sprint series he now helps organise.)
Over the years Dynamic Adventure have gathered a regular following for their events, always held in the South of England, and gradually developed the current score-racing format with Endurance and Challenge events over a weekend of racing. More recently they also organised the 12 hour DARE event on the South Coast and in the Forest of Dean.
The Endurance series has regularly attracted a good elite entry. The latest race was won by Tom Gibbs ahead of Team For Goodness Shakes, which included Stuart Lynch, so there were 2 former World Champions first and second to give DAR a fitting final results sheet.
For the most part however DAR were known for their encouragement of beginners venturing into navigational events, and staff were always on hand to help new racers with navigation and route choice. Food being so important to Adventure Racers the events will be remembered for Flossie’s Kitchen too!
The closure of DAR will leave a significant hole in the AR calendar which will now be missing a popular social and competitive weekend, and a series of navigation based events which helped racers gain the skills to move on to longer events.
Over the years SleepMonsters has always worked with DAR and all their race reports are on the website, going back to the first ever race on August 31st 2002. (If you want to reminisce you can read it here.)
We’d like to thank Nicky and Simon for their support of SleepMonsters over the years, and for their enthusiasm for AR. Perhaps in 2011 they will be seen competing at other events more regularly once again!
