Stage Towns and Entry for the TransAlp 2011 Announced

News Release / 06.12.2010
Two weeks prior to the start of the online registration for the 2011 CRAFT BIKE TRANSALP powered by NISSAN, eight of the nine stage towns have been named. The 14th edition of the classic race event across the Alpine divide will kick off in Mittenwald, Germany, on July 16th, 2011, wrapping up eight stages later on July 23rd, 2011, in Riva del Garda, Italy.

The routing leads from Mittenwald to Austria, where the Transalp circus guests in a town still to be announced and Mayrhofen. Then, it’s time to cross the Italian border. In South Tyrol, Brixen and St. Vigil welcome the maximum of 550 participating teams of two. Thereafter, the mountain bikers pedal to Alleghe, Transalp newbie San Martino di Castrozza and Trento to their final destination at Lake Garda.

The course set up with a total of 670.25 kilometres and 21,504 metres of altitude makes the up-coming Transalp the longest in history. And despite the fact that there have been some editions with more metres of altitude: the 2011 routing is a tough one as the length and 1,400 metres of altitude climb from Brixen to Wuerzjoch underlines.

But despite all expectable stresses and strains, the 2011 Transalp participants can look forward to some breathtaking legs as race director Uli Stanciu reveals: “Five stages are brand new, including some epic trails. Take the ‘Strada de la Vena’ on the course from Brixen to Alleghe. It’s a 15 km long singletrack and super nice to ride.”

When thinking of the Dolomites, the chief of course waxes lyrical about them: “It’s the best mountain range in the world. The third, fourth and fifth stage will be a panorama dream come true. In addition, we have superb stage towns. So, I guess 2011 will see the most beautiful Transalp we ever had!”

Registration to Start Mid-December

Online registration for next summer’s mountain bike highlight opens on www.bike-transalp.de on December 14th at noon.

Being on time might pay off as the experience of the last years has shown that the early bird gets the worm. The maximum of 550 entries for the teams of two are gone within only a few minutes.
