Trail blazers watch out: With the premiere of the SALOMON ZUGSPITZ-ULTRATRAIL taking place from June 24 – 26, PLAN B Agency from Munich in cooperation with Germany’s leading mountaineering school VIVALPIN and Tourist Office Grainau present an Ultra Trail event that’s going to break the boundaries of all earlier Trail Run and Cross Trail events in Germany.

The SALOMON ZUGSPITZ ULTRATRAIL GRAINAU, with a distance of 101 kilometers and a difference in altitude totaling 6048 meters, belongs to the most spectacular running events on German soil. As its start and finish venue, the Zugspitze village of Grainau provides the appropriate setting for an extraordinary Trail Run event. Pure nature, crystal clear water, and a magnificent mountain landscape, those are keywords that come to life in Grainau.

There will be no qualifications for the SALOMON ZUGSPITZ ULTRATRAIL GRAINAU. However, ambitious cross, ultra, and mountain runners should be aware of the requirements that such a course demands. Experience in high alpine territory is a requirement, as are coordination skills, the ability to find one’s bearings at night or in bad weather as well as being free from vertigo and having surefootedness.

The SALOMON ZUGSPITZ ULTRATRAIL GRAINAU is a running adventure that demands conscientious preparation in order to be able to enjoy those magnificent views and successfully complete the race. Rescue blanket, First Aid Kit, warm and waterproof clothing, head lamps and replacement batteries, as well as carrying sufficient food and liquids are absolutely mandatory in this race.

Aside from the physical strain and general exhaustion, mountain runners especially need to adjust to sudden changes in weather. For those who don’t dare take on the Ultratrail, an alternative is available in the form of the SUPERTRAIL. But with a distance of 64 kilometers and a difference in elevation totaling 3622 meters, the SUPERTRAIL should not be underestimated either. Basic endurance, surefootedness, and alpine experience are also required in this version with six feed zones in total. “Plans for a trail run event around the Zugspitze began as early as three years ago.
