A Busy Year for NAV4, The HeB2B and more ...
Joe Faulkner (Nav4) / 22.02.2011

‘In March NAV4 are staging a new 12hour MTB/run score event, NAV4/12, which promises to be tough and challenging. A healthy dose of skill and endurance will be needed although the idea is really simple and comes from the demand for more challenging and longer events. The Tour de Kentmere, The HeB2B Adventure in late May and the second running of ‘Le Tour’ in December complete the NAV4 calendar.
The Hebridean Challenge was the original UK multisport race and the one everyone wanted to do. ‘I’m working hard to keep The Heb magic going’ said Joe, and being one of the UK’s most experienced racers he has raced The Heb, Solo, Paired and as a team. Joe was recently awarded the UK AR’s SleepMonsters Inspiration Award for 2011.
‘We seem to have developed a bit of a ‘RAW’ philosophy – Real, Adventures in Wild terrain’. The HeB2B is the iconic race, replacing the Hebridean Challenge as the UK’s most remote and committing event. The HeB2B is open to Solo, Pairs, Trios and Quads, and is a week long race along the length of the Outer Hebrides – simply getting there is a bit of an adventure - but it’s a great week’s holiday to share with your team mates. The date is 29th May to 3rd June – May half term holiday, so enter it this year!
The Bampton Bash weekend on 25-26th March, has something for everyone. NAV4’s excellent Navigation skills course runs throughout the weekend, with the NAV4/12 event on Saturday and The Tour de Kentmere on Sunday. Bampton Village Hall acts as start, finish and base camp with free camping for everyone. Hardcore racers will be able to take on NAV4/12 and the Tour de Kentmere in a full on weekend.
The NAV4 navigation course is the original Mountain Marathon and Adventure Racing skills course developed over a period of twelve years. The course programme is delivered by a great team of tutors each with real race experience. ‘It’s no talking shop ... with everyone learning loads and going away buzzing with enthusiasm’, said Joe. Improving your navigation skills is the simplest and most cost effective way to improve your racing.
NAV4/12, and the training course venue, has a great area in the Eastern Lakes with some excellent riding and running. Joe says, ‘The event is open to Solo’s and Pairs although it seems there is a bit of a resurgence in solo racing ... or it’s just that Pairs’s are a bit more indecisive when it comes to getting your entries in!’
Full details of all NAV4 events can be found on <a href="#" onClick="javascript:newsitewindow('http://www.nav4.co.uk')" class="main">www.nav4.co.uk</a> with entries available online via www.sportident.co.uk.
