The Notorious Night Runs Are Coming!

First there was the Deerstalker, the Mighty Deerstalker, which now attracts 2500 runners to the Tweed Valley to race across hills and forest trails, through rivers and pools, over obstacles … and to do some of these things in the dark. The race quickly established itself as a classic trail run with a unique twist, and an exceptional standard of fancy dress, with tweed caps, antlers, kilts and other bizarre running attire accompanied by curly moustache and deerstalker pipe accessories!<br />
<br />After the Mighty Deerstalker came Horseplay, which took place for the first time last year. This southern country cousin takes place on the cross country course of the Hambleden Estate near Henley on Thames. The huge obstacles normally used for horse trialling were now the obstacles for human powered cross country, with a course ranging across the Chiltern hills, and taking in the water jumps. You hardly need to be told the theme … jodhpurs, whips, riding caps and all kinds of horsy paraphernalia were out in force for the first Horseplay, and there will be more of the same this year.<br />
<br />For 2011 these two established races are now joined by The Legends of Sherwood Forest under the banner of The Notorious Night Races. The new event will bring Rat Race Adventures imaginative and fun brand of trail running to middle England, with a venue at Sherwood Pines … and you don’t need to be told the dress code for that race either!<br />
<br />All the events follow a similar format, with 5k and 10k races, the latter starting at dusk and finishing the darkness, so good torches are essential. They all have free camping, parking, wine tasting, a late night party and a technical Tee included in the entry price, which is £25 for the 5k and £35 for the 10k event. Everyone who enters gets their Rat Reward of 15% at the on site Rat Race shop as well.<br />
