Adventurous Women Only Need Apply
Media Release / 04.03.2011

The Frontier Adventure Challenge is an 8 hour race with teams of three and solos competing for prizing and glory over 40 km of biking, hiking, and paddling through an unmarked wilderness racecourse. Frontier builds events to satisfy all levels of racers – from elite competitors to the first-time racer. Multiple racecourse options make the event achievable by anyone with a basic level of fitness, but elite competitors will be challenged with Advanced Course checkpoints. Teams of three can be all-male, all-female, or coed.
Interested women can apply via the Huntsville race page at www.fastadventures.com. Organizers are looking for women with an interesting story or perspective, and who have not attempted an adventure race previously.
"Frontier has a long history of supporting and recognizing women in adventure racing," said Geoff Langford, the Chief Adventure Officer of Frontier Adventure Sports. "We're excited to have joined forces with Axis Gear to provide this opportunity for two women, and we hope they will inspire other women to step out of their comfort zone and push the boundaries of sport."
Sally Heath has been adventure racing since 2003 and since then has competed in over 100 events ranging from sprint to multi-day races. In 2007, after several years of racing on coed teams, she decided she wanted to take the compass into her own hands and formed an all-female team. Since then, the Funderstorm has enjoyed success in sprint races in both Canada and the U.S. In 2009 and 2010, Sally led her team to category wins in the all-female division of the Ontario Adventure Racing Points Series!
"I'm thrilled for the opportunity to help some new female competitors discover the awesomeness of adventure racing," said Ms. Heath.
In addition to learning the secrets of preparation and racing from Sally, each winner will receive a package of Axis Gear Adventure Girls performance clothing to enhance the race experience.
