A Lineup of Champions for the First Annual Mind Over Mountain Adventure Race in Burnaby

Press Release / 26.05.2011
Over 200 racers are expected, coming from Washington State, Idaho, Oregon, Alberta, and all over BC. With a great lineup of defending champs plus some talented MOMAR first timers, it's sure to be an exciting battle for the podium. "Look for Todd Nowack of Victoria, Bart Jarmula of Revelstoke and Norman Thibault of Nanaimo in the run for the top spot," says Race Director Bryan Tasaka. Sarah Seads of Courtenay is back to defend her long run as one of the top female racers.

In partnership with Tourism Burnaby, MOMAR will utilize the expansive trail network of Burnaby Mountain, the Simon Fraser University campus, and the waters of Burrard Inlet. "We're really excited about hosting the MOMAR," says Matthew Coyne, Executive Director of Tourism Burnaby. "MOMAR is utilizing some of the best outdoor recreational opportunities in the Lower Mainland. The spectacular views and amazing trails will not disappoint."

MOMAR is thrilled to have Gary Robbins, endurance athlete and five time MOMAR champ, as Burnaby's course designer. "Gary has spent a lot of time perfecting the course and it's proving to be one heck of a route," says Tasaka. "Racers will be love the quality of the technical terrain, sweet single track, and the challenging navigation section."

The MOMAR is an off-road multisport race that requires teams to mountain bike, kayak, orienteer, and trek through a series of checkpoints. Each race has two course options: a 30km Sport Course or a 50km Enduro Course. As in all adventure races, the exact course route is top secret until the morning of the race.

Over 100 volunteers will be helping out for registration and on race day. All volunteers receive an award winning MOMAR T-shirt, entry to the infamous post-race dinner and party, and an unforgettable weekend experience. Participating in a MOMAR also means you'll be supporting MOMAR's official charity, the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Information on racing, volunteering and MOMAR training clinics is available at www.mindovermountain.com/momar/ or call 1.866.912.3331.
