Red Bull X-West Ready To Launch in North America in Summer 2012

The next step in the evolution of hiking and paragliding adventure races is ready for launch: Red Bull X-West will take place in North America in Summer 2012.

Based on the massively successful Red Bull X-Alps format, Red Bull X-West will be an invitational event where ten international athletes must hike and fly their way over an 800km (500mile) route.

Fans will be able to follow every move made by the athletes in the event via an online function using GPS data where viewers can see the exact tracks made by the athletes in virtual real-time.

“It’s the next step in the evolution of the Red Bull X-Alps,” says Red Bull X-Alps mastermind Hannes Arch. “We are very much looking forward to bringing this concept of adventure racing to North America.”

Honza Rejmanek, Red Bull X-Alps participant and first non-European to finish in the top three, welcomes the new race. "The Red Bull X-West will have us racing for days through desolate mountainous grizzly bear country,” says Rejmanek. “It will to make the Red Bull X-Alps seem like a walk in the park. I can't wait for what new and unprecedented challenges the Red Bull X-West will offer!"
