New Kayak Business for Godzone Organisers

The company behind New Zealand’s newest adventure race, the Orion Health GODZone Adventure, has launched a new kayak business.

100% PURE Racing directors, Adam Fairmaid and Warren Bates, have announced they have purchased a fleet of purpose built kayaks that will be provided to all competitors in the race which is being held in Queenstown over Easter, 2012.

“These kayaks are perfect for teams to race with and will be the only boats permitted to be used on the GODZone Adventure course,” says Warren.

“For national and particular international teams it was becoming clear that securing a suitable kayak for the event was proving extremely difficult for some and causing significant transport headaches for others so we decided to bite the bullet and create our own fleet.“

The response from teams entered to race has been overwhelmingly positive and Warren says it will maximise the overall experience for everyone racing.

“This investment will massively reduce the stress for teams, removes the need to find suitable kayaks and transport them to and from Queenstown and also simplifies the logistics of the event organisation.”

“They will be the only boats permitted to be used on our course which creates an even playing field for all teams. With the demands of television and with the race part of the Adventure Racing World Series we felt it made sense to step up and create a standardised fleet that can be used in our own race and also hired out for other global events.”

The kayak fleet has been developed in conjunction with a major kayak designer and consists of an adventure racing-specific double kayak known as the “AR1”. The boats will set a new international standard for kayaks in adventure races and will position the event uniquely in the AR World Series.

In conjunction with the AR1, 100% PURE Racing has also invested in a fleet of high performance inflatable kayaks which will allow for tremendous scope to explore some of New Zealand’s most remote water.

These inflatable's can be flown, boated, trucked and even portaged into some wonderfully inaccessible areas and will significantly improve the wilderness experience of those taking part in the event.
