Polaris are looking ahead to 2005 when they won’t be called Polaris any more. They are changing their name (and web site address) to Wild Horizons, to cover all the various paddling and mountain bike races they organise. Most are a navigational challenge and they are all perfect AR training.

The running of the Kona 24 Hour Mtb race in Victoria a couple of weeks ago was the fifth event in the 04/05 Strong Butt League, so that leaves only the Nalgene Polaris Challenge next March as the final event in this endurance biking series. Updated results are on the Wild Horizons web site now.

With the 2005 Polaris Challenge now less than 3 months away entries are already rolling in. The dates are March 12/13th and the location is “5 hours from Sydney and 6 hours from Mebourne”. There’s $25,000 of prize money on offer and everyone who enters receives a free 2 Litre Nalgene Hydration Bladder worth $55 thanks to the headline sponsor.

Before that there’s a Polaris Challenge training and social weekend on January 29/30th in Wingello State Forest in the Southern Highland. The weekend features various sessions designed to improve your performance in the Challenge (navigation, packing gear, course planning, bike maintenance etc), a number of rides and culminates in a 3 hour ‘mini’ Polaris Challenge. It should be a great social, riding and camping weekend.

Then towards the end of the year dates for some events have been shuffled around. The new Highland Fling event based in the Southern Highlands will be on 12/13 November., the Urban Polaris in Canberra is moving to 4th December and the next Paddle Polaris will now take place on 4/5 February 06. The Nalgene Polaris Challenge will, as always, be on the second weekend of March, 11/12 March 06.

All the details of all the activities and events are on the Wild Horizons website.
