I met up with Organic Adventure's MD, Wane Law to find out about their new venture ...
Editor: So Wane, what is Organic Adventure and how does it differ from the many other Adventure Race organisations out there today?
Wane: “Our name represents our philosophy. What I mean is, we’re not starting 'another' event organising company. We're creating a whole new genre of events. Ours will break the mould; they will encourage the young, old, fit and fat to take part. We're not about creating events for the very cream of the AR crew but listening to our followers, competitors and wives!”
So explain to me how the events will be different?
“There will be mixed event disciplines. Organic Fun will cater for the young, foolhardy amongst us with a hint of danger and a lot of fun! Organic Duck will be duck racing obviously!”
Who thought of this concept?
“Me and three like-minded friends. Adventure Racing is great fun, keeps you fit and encourages all ages to take part but it can alienate the masses. Fitness, age and experience are major factors in endurance sport and these variables discourage those who just want moderate activity and lots of fun. This is where we step in.”
When and where is your first event?
“On the 17th of June in Holmfirth, a small town in the heart of Holme Valley just north of the Peak District in West Yorkshire. It is near to my home town.”
And what is the format for this?
“This one’s a mountain bike only event, 3 hours of cycling and map reading.”
How many more have you got planned?
“We have 5 main trail events with many, many more planned. The next four in this summer series are for runners and walkers as well as Bikers, with different time limits to suit all.”
