Pertex to Sponsor the Original Mountain Marathon (OMM)
News Release / 10.07.2012

Pertex, whose aim is to provide a total solution for outdoor enthusiasts have moved one step further along this path with an agreement to provide sponsorship for The Original Mountain Marathon 2012.
Pertex can trace it’s origins back to the same area in England where the OMM was conceived in the shadow of the walls of the “dark satanic mills”. Lancashire is renowned for it’s work ethic “work hard, pray hard, play hard” and for the quality of it’s textiles.
In the 1970′s, an eccentric mountaineer called Hamish Hamilton came to Perseverance Mills with a theory. Hamish believed that cotton, canvas canopy fabrics gained much of their water resistance by wicking moisture along the softly spun yarns – a characteristic known as capillary action. Whilst this theory was not proven it gave rise to the development of a revolutionary range of fabrics. The fabrics offered a significant weight saving over existing fabrics at that time and so ideal for the outdoor market. The Pertex range of fabrics was then refined and developed as the years went by to ensure that the brand was synonymous with quality and innovation. This has continued to the present day, with the launches of the likes of Pertex Microlight, Pertex Equilibrium and Pertex Quantum.
OMM, The Original Mountain Marathon, founded in Lancashire in 1968 was the originator of the modern sport of adventure racing. It still represents, for the worlds mountain athlete, one of the ultimate challenges of endurance. 3,000 competitors running as teams of two have to cross unforgiving mountain terrain using their own skills to navigate and survive. At Elite level, two full marathons on consecutive days. In addition they have to go equipped for an overnight camp. In past events there has been rain, hail, snow and gale force winds.
“We use Pertex in many of our products," said Andy Williams Communications Director of OMM, "because of the high performance that is expected of them. To have Pertex also supporting us with the event completes the relationship.”
Steve Laycock Pertex Brand Director said; “To do the OMM is something I can only aspire to and I have great respect for the athletes who compete. OMM products are pushing the boundaries of design and it is great for us at Pertex to be with them both in their products and also with the event itself.”
There is still time to register for a place on OMM 2012. Go to www.theomm.com.
