Salomon Keep On Running St. Wendel 2012

News Release / 01.10.2012

In less than a week the starting signal will be given for the fourth SALOMON KEEP ON RUNNING event. About 500 runners from 12 nations are expected in St. Wendel, Saarland from October 5-7, 2012. Apart of the CityNight sprint, the Spiemont trail and the Bosenberg trail, a taster trail will be offered for the first time.

The Favorites

Not only top runners from the region will be at the starting line this year but also some famous names in the trailrunning scene. A clear favorite for the overall victory is Stefan Paternoster (GER) from the Team Salomon Germany, who already won the overall standings in the category men in the last two years. His team colleague Martin Schedler (GER) will try to stop him from doing a hat trick. Schedler showed in the last two years that he has good chances. The 31 years old runner-up was both times close to Paternoster's heels in the overall standings and on all distances.

Among the ladies the title holder Michaela Schedler (GER) will try to repeat her triumph from last year. One of her toughest competitors is Emily Hargreaves (UK), who won the Supertrail distance at the SALOMON ZUGSPITZ ULTRATRAIL this year.

The Runs

On Friday evening at 19:00 the running weekend starts with the 3,1 kilometers long CityNight sprint through the lit-up town center. Obstacles like stairs, tree trunks and narrow bends provide some excitement.

On Saturday morning the Spiemont trail leads into the forests of the nature park Saar-Hunsrück. The 30,7 kilometers long trail through the forests and meadows around St. Wendel doesn't fall short of an Alpine trail with altogether 676 difference in altitude.

On the third and last day the Bosenberg trail with 21,1 kilometers and 592 difference in altitude is on the agenda. The trail is shorter than the previous one but is as challenging with its numerous steep ascents.

This year a 10 kilometers long taster trail will be offered for all trailrunning novices on Sunday, October 7.

According to their personal fitness the participants can start in one or two runs or run in the triple trail standings, which consist of the CityNight sprint, the Bosenberg trail and the Spiemont trail.

Quite a special experience is the headlamp run on Saturday evening, which gives the participants the opportunity to explore the forests around St. Wendel. Last-minute registrations are possible on-site one hour before the run.
