Press Release / 03.10.2012

The rider from Port Macquarie on the New South Wales mid north coast completed the 87km course at Spicers Hidden Vale, west of Brisbane, in three hours 56 minutes and 13 seconds.

English, who finished in a dead heat for first last year with Merida Flight Centre teammate Adrian Jackson, was more than four minutes clear of runner up Trenton Day with another New South Welshman Aiden Lefmann a further four minutes back in third position. Jackson was fourth.

Brisbane's Jodie Willett achieved her third victory in the women's event in 4hr36m49s, almost 11 minutes ahead of last year's winner Jenni King of Victoria. South Australian Terri Rhodes was third.

The 10th anniversary Epic was held in fine and warm conditions with a record 1700 riders competing in the various events over the weekend.

The two-day Epic program includes the 50km Merida Pursuit, the 20km Spicers Chaser, and Mini and Minor Epics for children. A new 10km 99 Bikes Family Fun Ride was also added to this year's attractions as a growing number of families have joined the Epic ranks and taken up mountain biking.
