Challenge-X Race Launched by Ironman Winner
News Release / 16.10.2012

Challenge-X is a 100km two-day event consisting of three stages. A grueling 20km trail run followed by a punishing 65km technical mountain bike stage over the rough terrain of the breathtaking Dartmoor National Park on Saturday 10th August, then a demanding 15km circuit of the Royal Marines Commando Endurance Course at Woodbury Common, Devon on Sunday 11th August. Athletes will camp overnight on wild Dartmoor between stages.
The challenge course is being designed by Chris Ray, ex-Royal Marine and three-times British Ironman winner. The combination of three different stages in two very special locations, with the added dimension of taking on the world-renowned Commando Endurance Course, sets Challenge-X apart from the many endurance events on offer. This makes it a unique event for serious triathletes, adventure racers and those looking to take on a new challenge for charity. There is also an option for athletes to enter as part of a relay team.
Challenge-X, also a registered charity, provides added motivation for would-be athletes as the event aims to raise money to help Royal Marines who have been injured in Afghanistan. With prizes for the fastest finishers, there are also fantastic rewards for fundraisers including the chance to win an Adrenaline Day with the Royal Marines and a refund on the entry fee for anyone who raises over £1,000.
Chris Ray, Performance Director of Challenge-X, said, “The event is coming together nicely and I’m really pleased that as well as prizes for race winners we’re also able to offer rewards for our fundraisers which means the challenge is on in more ways than one! I know that athletes serious about taking on Challenge-X will be keen to start their preparations soon so to help them I’ll be posting regular training tips on Facebook and Twitter.”
