Ultra-light tent - Heavyweight Award: Nordisk's Telemark 2 Two-man Tent

The Nordisk Telemark 2, launched at the 2012 OutDoor trade show this summer as the lightest two-man tent in the world, has now been presented with the 2013 German Design Award.

At a total of only 880 grams for both the inner and outer tents, the Telemark 2 has already beaten all the records in terms of weight. Now the panel of judges of the 2013 German Design Award, made up of prestigious design experts from the business, science and design sectors, have chosen the sleek, attractive product as one of ten winners in the award's Lifestyle category, praising its "sophisticated design" and "superb materials" and saying, "A product that plays in the premier league and is really fun to use. Perfection in every respect."

Before reaching their decision, the judges assessed a range of criteria including design quality, level of innovation, brand value, function, ergonomics and ecological sustainability.

Nordisk's Head of Product Development, Sarah Groth, is delighted: "Telemark was our obsession and our flagship in the new 2013 tent range. We combined our years of experience in tent design with innovative materials such as carbon poles and ultra-light three-layer laminated fabric, to produce a tent that is sophisticated and functional. A challenging year of experimental development has now borne fruit.  We're very proud of the achievement and would like to thank the jury for the award.“

The German Design Award is the premium international prize presented by the German Design Council. It is presented to high calibre products and projects in the field of product and communication design that are landmarks in the German and international design environment.

This year the German Design Award Public's Choice Award will be presented for the first time, giving the general public the chance to vote for their favourite out of the winners from the nine categories of the German Design Award.
