Orion Health GODZone Nears Capacity

News Release / 07.11.2012

With almost five months still to go before the  Orion Health GODZone kicks off in March, 2013 race organisers have been impressed with the level of entries and are signaling an early close due to the high demand for places.

Orion Health GODZone Adventure Co-Director Warren Bates says the decision has been driven by event entries exceeding expectations and by the successful launch of the Corporate Challenge event, run in conjunction with Starship Foundation.

“It’s fair to say that Chapter 1 (the 2012 event) generated a huge amount of interest and that’s flowed through into the next instalment. With the corporate challenge now in place, it has meant that we can consider wrapping things up for GODZone Chapter 2 much earlier than expected.”

Once again there has been strong demand from overseas teams with almost 40% of entries international in origin, covering South America, Europe, Scandinavia, North America and Australia along with teams from last years event.

Adventure racing teams who want to pit themselves against the best in the world will have the chance to race alongside current Adventure Racing World Champions, Seagate, Australia’s top AR team and crack Scandinavian racers, AXA-Adidas.

“These teams will be looking to conquer the notoriously difficult Kiwi terrain and also the Kiwis themselves, says Warren. We have announced significant prize money this year and a World Championship spot is up for grabs so it promises to be a compelling battle at the front of the field.”

The success of Chapter 1 has also meant a significant increase in media interest for next March’s event. There are currently five film companies seeking to cover the event which will ensure great coverage for those taking part and help promote New Zealand as the pre-eminent adventure racing location.

100% PURE Racing, the company behind the event, has continued developments and is making significant advances in it’s ground breaking live coverage site.

“We set the bar pretty high with last years coverage and the viewing figures and positive feedback was pretty phenomenal. It was amusing to receive a host of complaints that the live coverage platform was so utterly compelling that it was practically impossible to do anything remotely productive for the entire duration of the event. This years coverage will be even more advanced and we have some exciting developments that will allow the viewer to immerse themselves into the race as it unfolds,” says Warren.

With only a handful of slots remaining adventure racing teams are being encouraged to get their entries in now to avoid disappointment. To find out more about the Orion Health GODZone visit www.godzoneadventure.com  or the Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/godzoneadventure
