X-Adventure Off-Road Triathlon Launched
News Release / 27.11.2012

A new sporting event is set to attract thousands of adventure lovers to Western Australia’s stunning Dunsborough region, with multisport competitors looking to discover whether or not they have the ‘X-factor’ when it comes to triathlons, albeit with a wild and dirty twist.
To be hosted in Dunsborough, Western Australia, the new X-Adventure is an off-road triathlon that will take place on 23-24 March 2013. Organiser, Rapid Ascent, is promising a festive sporting spectacle to rival its other regional outing, the Anaconda Adventure Race, widely known the world’s largest adventure race held at Augusta, WA.
X-Adventure Dunsborough represents a hybrid cross between triathlon and adventure racing and combines the three common disciplines of swimming, running and riding but mixes it up with a spectacular off-road course through the region’s wilderness paradise.
Competitors will swim in an ocean of turquoise water, run along a sculpted granite coastline interspersed with golden sandy beaches, and mountain bike on roller coaster single track through fields of wildflowers and native grasstrees.
The weekend-long event will encompass three outings of varying degrees of difficulty designed so just about anyone – including the kids – can be involved. All races are open to individuals and relay teams:
The Long Course X-Adventure is the premier event for the weekend. Designed for more experienced (or more determined) individuals and teams who can mix speed and endurance to conquer a spectacular challenge. The course includes:
- 1500m ocean swim
- 12.5km coast / trail run
- 25km mountain bike
The short course X-Adventure is designed for beginners and intermediate level adventurers who might be tackling an off road triathlon for the first time. The course incudes:
- 700m ocean swim
- 6km coast / trail run
- 12km mountain bike
The Kids X-Adventure is designed for youths aged up to 16 years of age so they can get a taste for off-road competition. The course includes:
- 200m swim
- 2.5km trail run
- 4km mountain bike
Located just 30 minutes north of Margaret River in the state’s South West, Dunsborough’s Geographe Bay coastline is one of the state’s most popular holiday destinations and not without good reason due to the stunning scenery, cosmopolitan array of cafes and winery’s, variety of accommodation and range of things to do away from the race course.
