Aveyron Adventure Race; Location: France; Dates: July 24th-28th, 2013
The Aveyron Adventure Race has announced that registrations are now open. Organized by experienced racers from the ARWS circuit, the race is firmly established on the French adventure racing scene and will be the longest and most challenging adventure race in France in 2013.
The countdown has begun to what promises to be an extraordinarily challenging race course that will appeal to international racers who have acquired a taste for racing in France after the success of last year’s Adventure Racing World Championships.
The race will take place in the heart of the Aveyron region of South-West France, with its arid plateaus, deep gorges and barren landscapes that are reminiscent of Patagonia. A new, longer format will enable international teams to discover one of the wildest and most preserved territories in France.
Mixed teams of four plus an assistant will race non-stop for 70 to 75 hours, covering over 400 kilometers with a positive elevation gain of 12,000. The disciplines include mountain bike orienteering, trek, trail running, kayak on rivers and lakes, rope works (tyrolean and abseiling) as well as challenging navigation using 1:25,000 IOF maps.
Prize money of 10,000€, to be distributed to the top three teams, has been placed in a blocked account to ensure prompt distribution after the race. High quality sponsorship means that the first five teams will not leave empty-handed. Places are limited to the first sixty teams to register.
