Extreme Energy Ridgeway 200 Enduro Challenge is Back

On 31 March 2012, nearly seventy hardened mountain bikers converged on the Ridgeway to test their speed and endurance to the limit. Spending an average of six hours a day in the saddle, they rode 100km from Wendover to Swindon in one day … before turning round the next day to ride back again.

That was the first-ever Extreme Energy Ridgeway 200 Enduro Challenge, and we’re delighted to announce that the event is back for 2013! The Ridgeway 200 Enduro 2013 takes place on 20/21 April, with riders travelling from around the UK to rise to the challenge.

The Ridgeway 200 Enduro is not a race: it’s a timed challenge, with riders setting off at two-minute intervals and a gold, silver or bronze medal for every finisher. This is a chance for riders to push their own stamina to the limit: as one of last year’s finishers put it, ‘It wasn’t actually too bad … but it’s still pretty hard!’

The route takes in 11,000 feet of ascent over two days (that’s the height of an average Alpine peak) and riders can take part as individuals or as teams. The event is ‘all inclusive’, just like Extreme Energy’s well-established multi-day ultra running events: fuel stops along the way; a hot meal at the end of day one; overnight accommodation (bikewash and showers included!) and breakfast at the start of day two are all provided. All that’s left to do is ride! Participants can choose a one-day option or go the whole distance.

About the route

The Ridgeway is the oldest road in Britain, dating back more than 5,000 years and passing Stone Age barrows; Saxon earth works; the Prime Minister’s country home at Chequers and the oldest of Britain’s chalk horses at Uffington. The Extreme Energy Enduro 200 route covers almost the full distance of the National Trail.
