In The Frame
News Release / 13.08.2013

Alpkit are proud to be the major sponsor of the documentary film project ‘In The Frame’ as it follows one man's mental and physical journey back from serious injury. On the 8th September Joe Beaumont will set off from Holme Fen in Cambridgeshire on a 450 mile journey to reach the summit of Ben Nevis. He will be undertaking this journey with 32 pins in his leg and his Llizarov frame still attached. Capturing the highs and lows from the lowest to the highest point in the UK will be accomplished filmmaker Dom Bush of Land and Sky Media.
In 2011 Joe Beaumont fell 40m from a rock face and is very lucky to be alive. After 2 years of rehabilitation Joe now wants to share this next stage of the journey each step of the way. As well as a personal challenge he hopes that it will also inspire and help others and the plan is to have different people join him for each leg of the challenge and share their own stories.
“Having this frame on my leg is such an obvious bind, it looks and feels like a torture device, something that I can’t hide. But something remarkable has happened since being in the frame, it bridges a gap for people and they not only empathise but share stories of their own traumatic experiences. Tales of pain, stress, fear and positivity, love, enlightenment, lessons learned, beautiful stories which have moved me also. They’ve given me strength, hope and determination to not just get better but get things done! I think that this Frame lets people open up and share, a kind of ‘Togetherness through Trauma.”
His metal cage - a Ilizarov external fixator has assisted his road towards recovery but it is an unwieldily contraption unsuited to any kind of extreme activity. Despite this Joe plans to cycle most of the way, while also taking in some swimming and canoeing as he travels from Holme Fen in Cambridgeshire at 2.4 m below sea level to the highest point in the UK, Ben Nevis via the 400m rock climb of Tower Ridge. He has already completed a triathlon in preparation!
Although we are backing this project Joe and Dom are still looking to secure further funds to cover the production of the film. They have launched the project on the crowd sourcing fund-raiser website Kickstarter. Kickstarter has helped launch hundreds of creative ideas, visit the site and watch the pitch. The film will be premiered at this years Kendal Mountain Film Festival. Be part of it.
All money raised through the sale of the film will be donated to the BMC Access and Conservation Fund and to Mountain Rescue who helped Joe so much.
