Mont Blanc Marathon Weekend a Sell-Out Success

Each year spots for the Mont-Blanc Marathon are increasingly popular. A phenomenon that has yet again been confirmed with the 2014 edition setting registration records. And it is not only the highlight event -the Mont-Blanc Marathon- but all 5 races that have been coveted by 20,235 internet users for 6000 spots in total. It is vindication for the weekend of races, that over the years has found itself on the French and International trail running calendar, and which this year will host the 2014 Skyrunning World Championships!
Tuesday October 15: Rush on registration
It took 2 hours for the Mont-Blanc Marathon to fill, and 8 hours for the Mont-Blanc Cross! This is a first for the Club des Sports de Chamonix who were expecting a record, but not this fast! The 80Km Mont-Blanc race found its 1000 participants in 8 days, and the inscriptions for the Vertical KM closed last week. Only the Mont-Blanc 10Km race has a few places left.
In 2013 all five races were filled, but it took 8 days to close out the 2000 spots for the Marathon.
The Club des Sports is euphoric with the passion displayed for the event but also shares a mixed disappointment of having to refuse more than 14000 runners. They are thinking of implementing a new registration system for the 2015 edition to leave fewer runners disappointed.
Increasingly International
Another record for the organizers: the international ampler of runners taking part in one of the races of the Mont-Blanc Marathon. 29% foreigners for the Marathon, 28% for the 80km; 27% for the Cross and 41% for the Vertical KM for a total of 60 different nationalities with England, Belgium and the Netherlands at the top. In 2013 the foreign participants represented 22% over the ensemble of the 5 races for a total of 58 nationalities present.
Three events for the 2014 Skyrunning World Championships
The 2014 edition of the Mont-Blanc Marathon will host the 2014 Skyrunning World Championships. The 80km, the Marathon and the Vertical KM are the events that will award the following:
- Title of World Champion in each of the three races
- Title of Combined World Champion: cumulative results in at least 2 events
- Nations ranking by teams of 4 (3men and 1 woman)
