Defending champion Christoph Sauser: “I want to keep hold to my title!”

One week prior to the start of the 2nd Protective BIKE Four Peaks the mountain bike event takes shape. Besides 900 amateurs, who have already registered for the four-day stage race from Leogang to Kaprun (June 4 thru 7), also several international pros are at the ready. Top favourite for a successful title repeat is Christoph Sauser who won three of the four stages last year and mastered the total distance with an advantage of some three minutes on his rivals. As a result, the Swiss athlete from Specialized Racing knows why he is coming to Austria: “I want to keep hold to my title!”

While the 2013 Marathon World Champion is also competing at the Four Peaks to get in shape for the up-coming European and World Championships, the event “is more than just a preparation race. I love stage races. The Four Peaks has always been a red-letter day for me with its strong field, super trails and stunning scenery.” Besides the 2000 Olympic bronze medallist, several other stars of the scene will give it a shot, too.

Tyrolean Alban Lakata obviously wants to do well at his home race and better his runner-up rank of 2013. But so far it's hard to tell how good the multi-time Austrian Champion already came back from his Achilles tendon injury suffered last winter.

Last year's third ranked racer and winner of the best climber category Markus Kaufmann is also aiming for another podium finish. So does his Centurion Vaude team mate Jochen Käß who won one stage last year and finished in fourth position of the elite category.

In addition, Team Bulls pros Karl Platt and Tim Böhme are also two well-known marathon and stage race specialist.

Further information about the race check bike-fourpeaks.de. Registration is still open on www.online-registration.de.

About the Protective BIKE Four Peaks - After its successful debut in 2013, the Protective BIKE Four Peaks is an absolute red-letter day in every mountain biker's calendar. The four-day stage race for a maximum of 1,000 participants will take place in the most spectacular mountain bike areas of the Alps from June 4 thru 7, 2014. In total, the routing consists of 273.45 km and 9,212 metres in elevation gain leading from Leogang via Lofer, Kirchberg and Neukirchen to Kaprun. Besides entering the race as single starter, every racer can also register for a team of (at least) four mountain bikers.
