The Ultra-Trail® World Tour Moves On

After China, Spain, New Zealand, Morocco, Japan and Australia, the Ultra-Trail ® World Tour continues its world tour of the most beautiful races around the globe. The next two legs are one in Italy and the other in the United States. After six races, including three "series", the UTWT, provisional classification is beginning to take shape and for the next two stages of the circuit, many athletes are competing and the competition promises to be fierce...
The North Face® Lavaredo Ultra-Trail® - Italy - 27 and 28 June
Start 27 June at 23h — 119 km — 5 850m A+ — 800 participants — 31 h maximum
The Eighth North Face® Lavaredo Ultra-Trail® will start from the centre of Cortina to pass the most spectacular peaks in the Dolomites : the Crystal, the Tofane, Cinque Torri, and of course the Tre Cime.
It’s a long journey beteen 1,300 and 2,500 metres in altitude that the best will circuit in 12 hours, the others having up to 31 hours to return to Cortina.
This year international athletes are expected in large numbers since their presence has passed from 33% in 2013 to 50% in 2014 with more than 56 nations represented. Among them those with a highly competitive perspective: the American Rory Bosio (Team The North Face ®) female winner of the UTMB ® 2013 (while placing 7th place overall) and Ashley Arnold, winner of Leadville 2013, the Spanish Nerea Martinez (Team Salomon) and Italian Francesca Canepa (Team Montura) back to Cortina after winning the 2012 and now the fifth in the UTWT ranking with 2 races completed.
For the men, many French are expected: Sébastien and Sylvain Camus (Team Garmin), Emmanuel Gault (Asics Team), Vincent Delebarre, Antoine Guillon (1st standings UTWT), Christophe Le Saux and Cyril Cointre (Waa Team). Americans Mike Foote (The North Face Team) and Dave Mackey (Team Hoka) will also run for the victory over the Spanish Yeray Duran and New Zealander Scott Hawker (Team Hoka).
For this event, thanks to the UTWT, 3 athletes will be on the Starting Line: Dave Mackey, Mike Foote and Rory Bosio. The North Face® Lavaredo Ultra-Trail® organisation is giving them both race bib and lodging, while the UTWT has handled their flight ticket.
The Western States 100-mile Endurance Run – California - USA - 28 and 29 June
Start 28 June at 5am — 100 miles or 160,934 km — 5 000m A+ and 7 000m D- — 360 participants — 30 h maxi
This 41st running of the most prestigious and oldest ultra-endurance race in the world is promising to be one of the most memorable in the event’s history. The historic course of the Western States 100-Mile runs between Squaw Valley and Auburn, crossing the Emigrant Pass, the Granite Chief Wilderness, the golden canyons of California, the icy waters of the America River to finish on red tracks once traveled by gold seekers. Throughout the winter, volunteers have refurbished the part of the circuit which was destroyed by fire.
There will be almost 400 runners both from all over the United States and from 25 countries on the Starting Line at 5am this Saturday, June 28 with a common goal: the finish line.
This year the biggest names in ultra-endurance will be present: Pam Smith (1st woman WS 100 2013) and Rob Krar (2nd man WS 100 2013). The competition this year will be even tougher as several international elites, arriving in the context of the Ultra-Trail ® World Tour (UTWT), will be searching for points: Miguel Heras (Spain), Ryan Sandes (South Africa) and Natalie Mauclair (France).
For this edition, thanks to the UTWT several athletes will be on the Starting Line.
