Oure Adventure Race – The Danish National Championship
Søren Romer Søborg / 16.07.2014

The best of the best. The Schools of Oure Sport and Performing Arts hosted the Danish race elite for an intense race across the island of Funen in the last weekend of May.
The race was estimated at about 18 hours, and the course was made with a certain mindset. There were no loops and no food stations along the way. The 18 three man teams had to bring all the food and energy they needed along the way, through various terrain from the start to the finish line.
The sequence of disciplines and distances was as follows:
Trailrun – 3 km
Ocean swim – 1 km
Coast run – 10 km
Canoe – 20 km
Mountain bike – 45 km
Rope course on the mtb-section
Inline skate – 15 km
Mountain bike – 10 km
Orienteering + Trailrun – 15 km
Sea kayak – 27 km
Kayak’n’Run’n’Swim – 20 km
Inlineskate + Trailrun – 10 km
The Kayak’n’Run’n’Swim section was a long freeorder orienteering course, where the team could split up individually to gather check points by travelling by foot or by kayak (each team had 1 kayak). It was mandatory to travel together as a team around the kayak when crossing the sea to go from island to island in the South Funen Archipilago.
The race started on the northernmost point of Funen in sunny conditions and with a fresh breeze, which made the ocean swim and the open sea canoeing a wobbly experience.
12 hours in to the race we had 7 teams within 45 min. in the transition area from the mountain bike section to inline skate.
At nightfall things started to slow down. Mountain biking and orienteering in the hills of Svanninge began to stretch out the 7 teams battling for first place. Kayaking from Faaborg to Svendborg West to East the teams had the sun coming up closing in through Svendborg Sound switching to K’R’S section that where going to be decisive.
ATventure had been in the lead since the canoeing, and they went on to win the male category. The championship was decided in the mix category and had 3 teams within 40 minutes before the last water passage on K’R’S-section 15 km, just from the finishline.
Team Spartakus Aarhus had been going flawless and hard, and were now in front with Skandia Adventureteam and Team Merrell trailing. Team Spartakus Aarhus were suddenly missing a life vest for the water passage and lost their lead. From there on Skandia Adventureteam could overtake the lead and go on to win the National Championship in front of Team Merrell Denmark and Mulitatleten Racing Team.
Congratulations to Thea Storm Henriksen, Peter Villadsen and Thure Fuhrmann Kjær.
