Yukon Artic Ultra
Primus Official Fuel Supplier For Yukon Arctic Ultra Race
Press Release / 19.12.2014

Swedish stove specialist Primus has been appointed Official Fuel Supplier to the Montane Yukon Arctic Ultra. The so-called MYAU is considered one of the hardest endurance races in the world and follows the track of the legendary Yukon Quest sled-dog race from Whitehorse to Dawson in the Yukon Territory. It is open to runners, cyclists, or cross-country skiers who can choose from four distances: Marathon, 100 miles, 300 miles, or 430 miles. As the athletes have to travel fully self-supported, melting snow is part of the game and that's why Primus signed a sponsoring contract with the organizers, German firm “The Great Outdoors”.
The MYAU is often called “the world's coldest and toughest ultra”. Participants do not only have to cover extremely long distances, they might face temperatures down to –50° C / –58° F (this is where the race is cancelled) in the sometimes fierce mid-winter wilderness of the Yukon Territory. Primus Marketing Manager Johan Sollenberg says: “The YAU is extremely tough and challenging – exactly the conditions where Primus feels at home.
As the Official Fuel Supplier, Primus will supply the participants with either LPG gas cartridges or, for colder conditions, white gas. For this winter season, the Swedes have introduced their new Winter Gas. Its secret is the Vapor Mesh, a special absorbent paper on the inside of the LPG cartridge. Increasing the surface from where the liquid pressurized gas can evaporate, it can be used at temperatures down –20° C (–4° F) compared to –12° C(+10.4° F) with conventional canisters.
The MYAU athletes do not only get their fuel for free, they can also rent Primus stoves from the organizers. Race director Robert Pollhammer says: “In the past, it happened regularly that participants arrived without a stove because it was confiscated at the security control during check-in. Or they left Whitehorse without their stoves. So we are very happy to offer the Primus OmniLite Ti as expedition proven rental stoves from now on.”
The next MYAU starts at February 8th, 2015 in Whitehorse. The athletes can be followed on life tracking. Read more about Primus stoves on www.primus.eu and about the race on www.arcticultra.de.
