Swaziland Tourism Launch For Expedition Africa 2015

THE Swaziland Tourism Authority (STA) is among this year’s sponsors for Expedition Africa, a 500km adventure-racing showcase, scheduled for launch this Thursday at Royal Spa Resorts.
This year’s expedition is expected to start on June 5.
“Swaziland is proud in playing host to the launch of this year’s edition of Expedition Africa.
“This will, indeed, shift world media attention to our beautiful kingdom, as throngs of officials, journalists, and participants would converge at the Royal Spa Valley Resort this coming Thursday,” said STA Marketing Manager Bongani Dlamini.
Describing Expedition Africa, Dlamini said adventure-racing was a multi-disciplinary endurance sport where competitors competed in teams, navigating from control point to control point in a number of disciplines.
“These disciplines include mountain biking, trekking, kayaking and orienteering. Teams are expected to navigate using a map and landmarks.
“Teams must be able to operate in harsh remote environments in all weather conditions,” said Dlamini.
He revealed that teams will travel through day and night, and they will decide when and where to rest. The first team to complete all the Expedition legs and visiting all the control points will be declared the winner.
“Teams are required to complete the entire expedition distance together, within hearing and visual distance of each other, helping and assisting each other.
“Team-work and team dynamics, therefore, will be essential.
“Past events show that a detailed understanding of one’s teammates and own capabilities is pivotal,” said Dlamini.
Meanwhile, Dlamini said registration for teams was now open and closing date for entries was April 30. Further details will be made available during the Thursday launch.
