Questars 360 - Thames Ridgeway Challenge
Questars 360 - A New Challenge for 2016
News Release - Questars / 11.01.2016

2016 marks the 15th anniversary of Questars adventure races and to celebrate this they have expanded their race portfolio by launching a new endurance event called Questars 360 which will run alongside their extremely popular one and two day adventure races.
Questars 360 is a multi-discipline team challenge event where the emphasis is more about completing the journey rather than how quickly you do so. There are a couple of other similar events already out there but these take place in the northern half of the UK, so those living down south currently have to travel a long way – sometimes a whole day – just to reach the start line. Questars 360 plans to redress the balance by offering similar challenges which show off the best of the long-distance trails and stunning scenery that can be found right here in the southern half of the UK.
The inaugural event will see participants embark on an epic journey through the quintessential picturesque English countryside as they trek alongside and kayak down The Thames, England’s longest river, and bike back along Britain’s oldest road for over 70 km of marvellous uninterrupted off-road cycling on The Ridgeway. A fairly even amount of trekking, kayaking and cycling is involved with teams expected to spend a similar amount of time - approximately 8 hours - on each discipline (though the time spent on foot will be less for those that run the trekking stage).
There may not be any big mountains but the route more than makes up for this in terms of its distance, which is akin to doing an Ironman - off road! The total distance is close to (but not more than) 240 km, the majority of which is on long distance national trails, providing a considerable challenge for anyone attempting to complete it in less than 24 hours. Teams don’t have to do that though as they can choose whether to undertake the challenge non-stop or split it over two days with an overnight break in between.
The event takes place on the weekend of Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 June 2016 to make best use of the long daylight hours, coupled together with a full moon. Places are limited by the number of kayaks available and demand for these is likely to be high, so early entry is strongly recommended. Entries are now open and an early bird discount is available up until the end of January.
