Get ready for Adventure Racing

The 2016 Wildside Adventure Race course has ben set and it captures the true heart of adventure and takes teams to some of the Great Lakes most beautiful places. Based out of Bulahdelah on the October long weekend teams of 4 or 2 will have 12, 24 or 36 hours to navigate through spaces rarely visited and overcome challenges traversing demanding landscapes, moving from checkpoint to checkpoint by foot, mountain bike and kayak. This is adventure racing.

With Australia hosting the adventure racing world championships this year WildsideAR has teams from Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales finalizing their training and preparing to descend onto Bulahdelah. The three race options have proved to be very popular with new adventure racers taking on the 12hr course and experienced teams entering the new 36hr format. WildsideAR is the brainchild of adventure couple Richard Old and Danielle Donnelly from Fully Rad Adventures. No strangers to racing and the outdoors they have combined all their event and adventure knowledge to create an exciting race.

“We really love the outdoors, adventure racing and are passionate about getting people outside” Race Director, Richard Old, “For WildsideAR we have taken all that we love about the sport and created a course that offers real adventure as well as promotes Bulahdelah and the Great Lakes” On the October long weekend teams will use map, compass together with their own wits and skills to navigate their way over an unmarked route by mountain biking, paddling, trekking, orienteering, trail running, and of course a few surprises through the spectacular forests and rivers surrounding Bulahdelah. They will have to problem solve, route find and persevere over a wild course managing their resources.

“This race will have everything - challenging trek routes, demanding mountain biking, navigation that will make teams stop and think and scenic paddle legs. The course is rich in history and we are designing a race that will give teams a real adventure experience as well as getting to know the area.” Based in the township of Bulahdelah, Great Lakes, on the North Coast, this part of Australia has a landscape perfect for adventure with miles of forest tracks and trails, mountainous climbs, flowing rivers, wide lakes and a community that is connected to its environment. Teams can expect a warm welcome and a great experience.
