The Stockville Is Coming to Pennsylvania This October
Press Release / 20.09.2016

The first edition of The Stockville will take place the weekend of October 22, 2016. Inspired by the mountain marathons of Europe and the UK, the newest event from Rootstock Racing promises big adventures in the wilds of Pennsylvania’s Tuscarora State Forest.
The Stockville brings together teams of 2-4 racers for two days of foot and navigation challenges on a linear, point-to-point course. The final checkpoint on Day 1 – and the start location for Day 2 – will be at Mid-Camp, a community campout where racers will come together over roasted marshmallows to swap stories and share in the wonder of their collective adventure.
“Having traveled to the UK for a number of multi-day races, we fell in love with the idea of the Mountain Marathon,” said race co-director Abby Perkiss. “We wanted to translate the concept to the Mid-Atlantic region, with our dense woodlands, rich industrial history and heritage, and vast network of state forests.”
The race will challenge experienced racers with a mix of hiking, trail running, and off-trail navigation, but with options for dropping checkpoints and shortening distances, it is also accessible to everyone with basic map-and-compass skills.
“Making it to Mid-Camp should be a manageable goal for racers of all levels, with an extension possible for the more experienced and faster participants,” says co-director Brent Freedland. “And Mid-Camp is worth the journey.”
Racers can expect to travel 20-25+ miles on Day 1. Distances range from 18-20 miles on Day 2. They should be prepared to carry all their food and gear for the duration of the event, but tents and cooking supplies will be transported to Mid-Camp.
