The Société de développement et de mise en valeur de Carleton-sur-Mer (SDMC) and Endurance Aventure are proud to announce the opening of the registration period for the fourth edition of the Gaspésie International Raid. This adventure race will be held from September 7 to 10, 2017… somewhere in Gaspésie.

The Gaspésie International Raid is among the most intense sport and human challenges. It takes place in a wonderful natural landscape, between mountain and sea. It is a “green” sport event located in Canada, in the province of Quebec.

170 Outstanding International Athletes

Experienced adventurers take part of this race in which they have to go beyond their limits. By teams of 2, they must, with a minimum gear, go over a distance of 300 K or 150 K in 3 days, and perform various sport-nature disciplines such as mountain bike, canoe on sea and rivers, trekking, coastering, swim, rope activities, trail running, canyoning and other surprises.

A Challenge in the Wilderness

Each edition is full of surprises as the race course always change completely in order to offer new challenges in each edition and allow the racers to discover the exceptional beauty of the Gaspésie region. In order to succeed, the athletes must have exceptional adaptation skills and a solid team spirit, as the main challenge lies into psychological more than physical obstacles, even if these latter are still huge. The teams have to confide in their experience, their judgment, and in their team mates, and do with nature and not against it.

A Challenge to Test the Limits of Endurance, Collaboration and Human Spirit

A good race strategy has to take into account the choice of the gear, of the itinerary and the management of rest and food. Team cohesion, transcendence, performance and the will to always go further into the wilderness are the objectives of such an adventure. The teams participating to the GIR live extreme emotions, happiness, anxiety, adrenaline rushes… and cross the finish line with so much pride, that they will remember the experience for their whole life!

The diversity of the teams taking the start at the Gaspésie International Raid is impressive. During the first three editions, there have been participants from South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Spain, Estonia, USA, France, Ireland, Switzerland, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Italy, UK and Denmark, apart from Canada. In Canada, there is an obvious growing interest in this kind of sport challenge; the GIR has welcomed teams from 7 provinces and even from the Nunavik, in addition to many regional teams and the 200 youth taking part in the Youth Prologue.

Media Spin-off

About twelve journalists from all over the world will come to cover the GIR again, along with the TV production team. Thanks to these media professionals, Gaspésie and Quebec will be, once again, shown as a perfect territory for adventure tourism. Moreover, the one hour TV program produced about the GIR 2016 is being edited right now and will be broadcasted on about 70 Sport TV channels in 170 countries around the world.

Are you Wild enough?

About one third of the teams who did the GIR 2016 already mentioned their will to come back to the 2017 edition so… hurry up to sign up if you are interested by the adventure!
