USWE Adventure Team - A New Norwegian Team In Adventure Racing World Series
Press Release / 13.12.2016

USWE sports, high end producer of hydration packs, are forming a new Adventure Racing Team for the World Series in 2017 and 2018. USWE Sports are developing a brand new series of 20 - 30 l back packs for the outdoor segment and the adventure racing team is part of the process.
”This is a great opportunity for us in the team!” States Jacob Westerberg team captain, “It is a dream come true to cooperate with USWE Sports in the development of the new back pack. We have the experience of racing in Asia, South America, USA, Europe and Africa and we have lots of ideas how to make the perfect back pack for outdoor use and for racing.”
The Norwegian team consists of two Swedes and two Austrians, all living in Norway since several years. “Our team language is Norwegian, but sometimes we are deliberately cheating with Swedish, German and English.” Jacob continues.
Jacob & Helen Westerberg have raced together since 2009 and Felix Breitschädel and Wolfgang Kampel started their mutual racing in 2012. This autumn they have joined forces and are forming a competitive Adventure Racing team with ambitions for ARWS podium spots.
Felix Breitschädel started his Adventure Racing career already in the early 2000s, but it is as a professional orienteering runner he has been collecting most of his medals. Participating in 8 World orienteering Championships and 13 times Austrian Champion he is the team Navigator. “Orienteering and AR navigation is all but similar, but still it is the same skills in use. I have been navigating in several AR events, like Primal Quest, Tieto Enator, Le Grand Tour, many AIM and I know what to expect from the races that we will take part in.” says Felix, relaxed about the team’s expectations on the navigation.
“I really believe in this team.” Says Helen. “We have the skills, endurance and mental abilities needed. With Jacob and my own recent experiences from ARWS races combined with Felix technical navigation skills, we are prepared for pretty much anything. The team wild card is definitely Wolfgang Kampel. As all of us he is a skilled orienteering runner. But, he is quite new to long races. He is a strong alpine runner, runs around at 3000 masl all summer in Austria, and he is pretty helpful when it comes to biking as well.” Helen continues.
Wolfgang Kampel describes himself as a strong runner and biker, but what about paddling? “Well… you know. I’m pretty relaxed when it comes to challenges. I have lots of things to learn from the other guys and I’m open minded about the challenge. I will put the effort in to make myself useful in the kayak. Wait and see…” says Wolfgang with a big smile.
The team has ambitions for Adventure Racing World Series and Adventure Racing World Championships. The 2017 edition of ARWC is hosted by Cameco Cowboy Tough Race, in Wyoming, USA. Jacob and Helen have been racing in the Wyoming World series event for two years, preparing for the 2017 World Championship. In 2015 they claimed the 3rd spot and in 2016 they were 1st in the two person mix category.
ARWS and ARWC races are important part of the team schedule and it is also a marketing opportunity for the team sponsor. “It is a great statement of how our sport and the ARWS brand can attract associating businesses to invest in Adventure Racing. For us in the team it makes a great opportunity to reach our target for the next coming years” says Jacob Westerberg.

What is a 'Dancing Monkey'?
Since the birth of the very first backpack, these ruthless creatures have amused themselves by attacking mountain bikers, runners, skiers and offroad riders wearing packs when in action, bouncing and hammering their backs and heads for cruel pleasure. They are called “dancing monkeys” and they hunt in groups and show no mercy to their victims when trying to steel your pack. For decades, the industry has tried to stop these monkeys and their dangerous behaviour, but without succeeding. Until now!
USWE Presents The Bounce-Free Solution
At USWE we have discovered how to stop the “dancing monkeys” from going bananas on your back. We have designed a revolutionary 4-point suspension harness that these monkeys just can’t beat.
