21st LAMM - Scottish Mountain Marathon - 3/4th June 2017

Press Release / 30.12.2016

Having topped up with Christmas Cheer it is time to look forward to some fine adventures in 2017!

We are delighted to let you know that the 21st LAMM - Scottish Mountain Marathon is taking place on 3/4th June 2017.  We've been working on the area since 2015.

Online entries are now open at http://www.lamm.co.uk.  The 10th and final Highlander MM took place this year on our usual LAMM weekend in early June.  You may be aware that it sold out months before the event took place with 350 teams entered and many more on the Waiting List. LAMM 2017 will be allowing a similar number of teams to take part and based on the experience at the Highlander, we recommend that you enter the LAMM without delay as we believe that our event will fill early in the new year.

10 Top Reasons For Taking Part in the LAMM:

- The LAMM is now the only Scottish Mountain Marathon taking place during the Summer months
- The event is a true Mountain Marathon and takes in the summits of some of Britains highest Mountains
- It is a challenging A -> B mountain journey and doesn't feel like a long orienteering event.
- It crosses a larger expanse of  Mountains than any other MM and you will experience a true sense of wilderness and adventure.
- Although the LAMM is very competitive at the sharp end and attracts the finest mountain runners in Europe, it is also incredibly inclusive, friendly with no sense of elitism.
- We deliver you to a number of different start locations on the Saturday morning and this ensures that the midcamp can be reached by courses of different lengths, designed for all abilities.  Over the years we have transported LAMMers by Steam Train, Sprinter Train, Calmac Ferry, Paddle Steamer and Coach
- The emphasis is always on providing challenging courses requiring navigation skills and great routes that cross classic high mountain country.  We'll provide you with an isolated overnight camp at a wild mountain location
- We build a sense of anticipation - the exact location has always been kept secret until 36 hours before the event, but you'll know enough to plan your transport.
- We'll introduce you to new, unexplored parts of the Scottish Highlands that you can revisit in later years at a more measured pace.
- The LAMM is the Connoisseurs Mountain Marathon

The LAMM is Looking for a Title Sponsor

I have organised the LAMM ever since 1994.  We have held 20 events so far and taken a couple of years off along the way.  The event has always taken place in the Scottish Highlands and attracted about 500 pairs.  It is the biggest single event taking place on Scotland's high mountains.  Lowe Alpine has been a brilliant sponsor of all 20 editions and we will always be indebted to them for their wonderful support.  Their business focus is now on selling rucksacks rather than mountain clothing and so the LAMM is no longer the ideal vehicle for them as a title sponsor.

If anyone out there feels that their company would be interested in becoming the Title Sponsor of the Scottish Mountain Marathon, then do please get in touch with me - martin@lamm.co.uk.

And Finally ......

We look forward to meeting up with old friends and many who are new to the LAMM and Mountain Marathons on Friday 2nd June at  a secret destination in the Scottish Highlands.  For more details visit  http://www.lamm.co.uk
