Ranulph Fiennes lecture for Carolyn Jones
Rob / 20.05.2002

He may have to live with the tag “The World’s Greatest Living Explorerâ€, but Sir Ranulph Fiennes is also an enthusiastic adventure racer, and says he’d love to race more often. (He turned out at the Ford Adventure Series race recently.) He’s well known as an inspirational public speaker too, and with so many high profile adventures to recount is in very high demand.
That’s one good reason to book your ticket for his forthcoming lecture on ‘A Lifetime of Adventure’ in London on June 26th, the other is that all the proceeds will go to the Carolyn Jones Trust. Carolyn was an enthusiastic convert to AR after competing as an international rower but was severely injured in a canyoning accident when racing in Switzerland and was in a coma for some time. Since she came of the coma she has made steady improvement, although she still struggles to speak and control some of her movements. The fund helps to pay for the long term rehabilitation care she needs and is managed by Steven Seaton, the Editor of Runner’s World Magazine and a team mate of Sir Ranulph. All proceeds from the lecture will go to help her and her family on the long road to recovery.
It’s bound to be an entertaining night as Sir Ranulph has plenty to talk about on the subject of ‘A Lifetime of Adventure’. For the last 30 years he’s been setting off on exploratory expeditions, including the first circumnavigation of the world on its polar axis, the discovery of the Ptolemy\'s lost city of Ubar and the first unsupported crossing of the Antarctic. As a racer he’s competed in the Eco Challenge 3 times and is planning to return to New Zealand later in the year for a second go at the Southern Traverse. Get along to listen to him if you can.
