Top Australian Multisport Athletes Lined Up For Åre Extreme Challenge
Press Release / 18.05.2018
Alex Hunt from Hobart, Maria Plyashechko, Serge Kurov and John Carroll put their entries in Åre Extreme Challenge which will take place in North West Sweden 30th of June.
Hunt who finished 2nd in this year Coast to Coast is really excited about the event and says he doesn’t quite know what to expect as never raced in Scandinavia before but looking forward to check out famous Swedish beer at the finish line.
Plyashechko, fresh from winning Victorian Adventurethon this April, has been racing in Scandinavia before, expecting to see top competition and pick up some fresh organising ideas for her event management initiative Adventure Junkie. “This year we have launched a new project Adventure Cup- three multisport events across Victoria and NSW Australia, so it is an exceptional opportunity to pick fresh vision from Sweden, their race is well known to be run on outstanding level and attracts a lot of attention”.
Kurov had two successful Multisport races this year in Melbourne winning guerrilling Eildon Challenge saying: “It will be a hard race, but it has all things I love - very hilly run, downriver paddle, and reasonably not too technical MTB. Sweden is cool place; Scandinavians managed to create their specific Scandinavian way harmony with nature, and it is always pleasant to be there and enjoy the elements”.
Are Extreme Challenge is Scandinavan first and oldest Multisport Challenge. The Premier River class which is also European Multisport Championship consists of total 72 km course through Swedish mountains including spectacular 25 km downriver paddle, 15 km run with 1000 meters elevation gain and 30 km mountain bike. The race has been on since 1997 and established great reputation with more than 600 people attending the event.
The event already attracted some serious international participation with Sam Clark, multiple Coast to Coast winner, winning the event last year and coming second a year before.
