Racing Ahead, Inc. Closing Down in August
News Release / 19.07.2005

Following the conclusion of Race 3 of the New England Adventure Race Series on August 14th, Norm Greenberg and Tracyn Thayer, Race Directors and Owners of Racing Ahead, Inc., will say good-bye to the adventure racing community as event organizers.
"This decision is multi-faceted, though, as there are other reasons, including personal ones, as well.", says Norm Greenberg, President of Racing Ahead, Inc.
"We hope that our racers and our sponsors will understand, although we recognize that they are likely to be disappointed," continued Tracyn Thayer. "We encourage all our competitors to continue racing, to reward high-quality, authentic events with their patronage, and to work to make sure the sport grows in a safe and positive direction. We will do our best to continue to help racers recognize the companies that have been so supportive of Racing Ahead, Inc. and the Adventure Racing community in general. We ask all racers to patronize those companies because of their commitment to adventure racing."
When asked how the departure of the Appalachian Extreme, Racing Ahead, Inc.'s Premier event, will affect the AR World Series, of which it is an original member, Series Director Geoff Hunt stated "We have enjoyed working with Tracyn and Norm and wish them every success in the future"
At this time, Thayer and Greenberg are not proactively working to sell the company. "But that's not saying we wouldn't consider the right offer by the right person(s)", says Norm Greenberg. "Capitalizing on the superb reputation we've built over the last 5 years would present a great opportunity to someone interested in getting into the business."
Tracyn adds "Don't expect us to just go out to pasture. We plan to remain involved with the sport that we fell in love with, but are definitely shifting away from big AR projects. I hope to remain on the USARA executive board for the near future at least."
What does this mean for racers 'planning' to do a Racing Ahead, Inc. Event? There are only 2 more chances. The first chance is this weekend (17 July 2005), a 12-hour Adventure Race for teams of 3 centered out of the Lodge at Mount Snow in West Dover, Vermont, and the last chance is August 13-14, the New England AR Series Final, a 24-hour AR based out of Gunstock Resort near Gilford, NH.
