World Obstacle, the international governing body for the sports of Ninja, Obstacle Course Racing and Adventure Racing announced today Adventure 1 as the official World Cup for Adventure Racing.

“Our collaboration with Adventure 1 provides an accessible format for athletes to compete in this exciting sport and we are thrilled to assist the growth of adventure racing as we expand the series worldwide” said World Obstacle President, Mr. Ian Adamson. “Geoff Hunt and Pascale Lorre started the process of formalizing events in the sport at the first Adventure Racing World Championships in 2001 and bringing world-level events together as part of a recognized sport has been a dream of mine since the third X-Games adventure race in 1997."

“Recognition from World Obstacle validates the sport and is an important step in uniting the adventure racing community globally. We have worked hard for the past five years to provide a system and event structure that represent the needs of the athletes and event producers, not those of commercial interests” said A1 Founder, Mr. Todd Vickery.

Recognition from World Obstacle, sets Adventure Racing on the pathway to approval by the international sporting regulatory bodies, the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Adventure Racing is recognised as its own sport under the umbrella of World Obstacle, a not for profit, democratic, member based association run by volunteers, and will be self-governed via its own Technical Committee. This provides governance and benefits for the athletes by the athletes (not event owners ), and maintains the integrity and direction of the sport - so get involved by volunteering on your national federation, or a on committee at any level.

In addition to the World Series, A1 will be working to expand their successful National Series model to all 100 + countries with national federation members of World Obstacle to provide a pathway for Adventure Racers from grassroots to the highest level of international sport.

The 2022 Adventure 1 World Cup calendar will be announced soon and will culminate in the A1 World Cup Final to be hosted by 6 x Expedition AR world champion Nathan Faavae at the True West Adventure Race, Franz Josef Glacier, New Zealand from 1st-4th December 2022 - www.truewest.nz
